Maverick Books review – The Snugglewump & Wishker

Dilly and the Boo blog the snugglewump book review

Today we have a double book review in the form of Maverick Books’ soon to be released picture books, The Snugglewump and Wishker which are due for release later this month.

The Snugglewump by Lou Treleaven is a beautifully illustrated story about the power of love, friendship and the unique sentimentalities we make as children.

Molly has lots of toys, all of whom have their own special qualities, but who is her favourite? All the toys are arguing about who is more fun, cool, and admired, all the while ignoring the tatty piece of patchwork fabric lying on the ground, the Snugglewump. Feeling rejected and worthless, the Snugglewump leaves home to discover that you don’t need bells and whistles to be treasured.

The Snugglwump is a perfect bedtime story with it’s flowy rhyming prose and gentle tone.

Dilly and the Boo blog Wishker book review

Wishker by Heather Pindar is a magically story about the importance of not always getting what you want. Mirabel, like every young child, feels like she is always being told ‘NO,’ whether it is for a sleepover or a pet monkey, until Wishker, a rufty-tufty roaming cat, turns up and offers her the chance for three wishes.

Mirabel instantly wishes that everybody would say yes to her requests, and as you can imagine she asks for some ridiculous, chaotic things. It doesn’t take her long to realise that there are reasons behind the rules and sometimes ‘No,’ isn’t a bad thing. But will her brother Jim learn the same lesson?

Wishker is a funny, bright book, filled with detailed images, and plenty to discuss with your child.

These books were gifted to us by Maverick Books and Boolino for the purpose of reviewing. All opinions are our own.
